Why Attaching Documents to Your Estimates Helps You Win More Jobs
An estimate alone often does not give your client the full picture of what they are about to approve. Attaching a document to your estimate gives your client the supporting context they need to say yes the first time, like a photo of the proposed work, your full terms and conditions, a scope-of-work PDF, or anything else that makes the decision easier. Clients who can see the details on the spot approve estimates faster, ask fewer follow-up questions, and trust the price you quoted. Thryv Business Center lets you attach a file directly to any estimate before you send it, with no extra steps for your client to access it.
This article walks you through how to attach a document to an estimate, how your client receives and views the attached document, and what file types and sizes are supported. It does not cover attaching documents to invoices. To attach a finished product or other document to an invoice, see Attach Document to an Invoice.
How to Attach a Document to Your Estimate
Start by adding items to your estimate the way you normally would. At the bottom of the estimate creation screen, click the Attached Documents dropdown to expand the document attachment options.
The estimate creation screen displays the items added to the estimate at the top, with the Attached Documents dropdown at the bottom. When expanded, the dropdown shows the options to add a document to the estimate.
Choose a Document Source
Inside the Attached Documents dropdown, you have two options for adding a document:
From My Documents. Select a document that is already stored in your Thryv Business Center document library.
Upload New. Upload a new document directly from your device.
Once you have selected your file, click Add to attach the document to the estimate.
The document source selection screen displays two options: From My Documents for selecting a file already stored in your Thryv Business Center account, and Upload New for uploading a file directly from your device. An Add button is visible to confirm the document selection.
How to Send the Estimate With the Attachment
After attaching your document, click Send as you normally would to send the estimate to your client. The estimate email your client receives includes an indication that an attachment is included with the estimate.
The estimate email displays the estimate details along with an indicator showing that a document is attached to the estimate. Your client can see the attachment is available before opening the estimate itself.
How Your Client Views and Downloads the Attachment
When your client opens the estimate, they can view the attached document by clicking the Documents dropdown inside the estimate. The document opens in a new tab in their browser.
To save the attachment to their device, your client can right-click the document from the estimate view or from the new tab and select the option to download. On a mobile device, your client can tap and hold the document to access the download option. The attached document is also saved to their client portal under Documents, so they can access it again at any time without needing the original estimate email.
The client estimate view displays the estimate details along with the Documents dropdown. When expanded, the dropdown shows the attached document available for the client to view or download. The same document is accessible from the Documents section of the client portal.
