How to Set Up Invoices to Accept Partial Payments
Before clients can make partial payments on invoices, you must enable the partial payment option in your settings. To access your payment settings, click Settings in the left-hand navigation, then click Payments.
In the Payments section, click Invoices and Estimates, then scroll down to the Invoice Terms and Conditions section.
Check the box labeled Enable Partial Payments for Invoices to allow clients to make partial payments on invoices.
You can also set a minimum partial payment amount by entering a percentage of the total invoice amount. Setting a minimum prevents clients from making partial payments below the threshold you specify.
How to Take a Partial Payment on an Invoice
This section covers taking a partial payment on an invoice that has already been sent to a client. To send an invoice before taking a partial payment, see how to create and send an invoice in Thryv Business Center.
To take a partial payment, navigate to the invoice you want to collect payment on. You can find invoices from the Bookings and Invoices section in your account or from the client's card in your CRM.
On the invoice, click Take Payment.
Click the Payment Amount field to edit the amount. Replace the full invoice amount with the partial amount you want to collect.
Once the partial amount is entered, complete the payment as you normally would. You can send the client a payment link, charge a credit or debit card, or record a cash or check payment. Thryv Business Center will charge or record only the specified partial amount. The invoice will update automatically to show the payment received and the remaining balance due.
How to Request a Partial Payment on an Appointment
You can request a partial payment from a client directly from an appointment in your Calendar. To request a partial payment on an appointment, open the Calendar in the left-hand navigation and click the appointment you want to request payment for.
In the appointment details, follow these steps:
- Click Take Payment.
- Click Send payment link.
- In the window that appears, change the amount in the payment field to the partial amount you want to request.
- Select how you want to send the payment request: via SMS/text or email.
- If you choose SMS/text, the client's phone number on file will appear by default. You can change the phone number to a different number if needed.
- If you enter an alternative phone number, check the box labeled Update the client's phone number for SMS notifications to save the new number to the client's record.
- Click Send.
After the payment request is sent, a note with a timestamp will appear in the appointment confirming that the payment request link was sent.
