Yahoo Local Listing Not Appearing in Search
Hi,
I need help fixing an issue with my Yahoo search listing. When someone searches for “deck builders in Orland Park,” my business does not appear. Instead, Yahoo lists my business under “Preconstruction Consulting,” which is incorrect.
Please update and correct my Yahoo Local/Yext listing so that we show under the proper categories, such as “Deck Builder” or “Deck Contractor,” and make sure all business information is accurate and consistent across directories.
Let me know once this is resolved or if you need anything from me.
Thank you,
Adam

Hey Adam,
I know we concluded this via email but wanted to post here for anyone with a similar concern.
Yahoo confirmed that they have moved to being a “blind-submission publisher”. This means that while we can send information to them, they cannot guarantee it will be used or displayed. Due to this, we are unable to get confirmation from Yahoo on what categories on our end result in the desired category to publish on Yahoo. In short, Yahoo has discretion on what/how information is published on their website.
For this reason, I don’t recommend changing your categories as you currently have “Deck Builder” as your primary category, which would typically include other terms such as “Decks & Railings”. At this point, if we add other categories to try and get a certain category on Yahoo, it kind of becomes a weird game of whack-a-mole where you are adding/removing categories to see what happens on one listing. Since changes to your categories affect your information on other sites, I believe it would be best to not make any changes.
Let us know if you have any questions and thank you for reaching out!

Hi Adam!
When setting up your business information in the Thryv software, the categories selected for your business will get fed to any connected partner listing to ensure consistency across different publishers. There can be some differences with how each publisher chooses to label their categories. For example, sometimes we see one publisher choose to use "Deck Builder" but another could choose to publish this as "Preconstruction Consulting", as is the case on Yahoo.
When looking at your business information, I see that you are set up for "Deck Builder" and "Window Installation Service" and am not seeing any issues with how this is publishing across the partner listings. In this case, Yahoo labels their "Deck Builder" category differently than most other listings.
As each publisher discerns what information shows up in their searches, there would not be a way for us to change this labeling from "Preconstruction Consulting" to "Deck Builder" for Yahoo specifically. In this situation, we would typically recommend ensuring your business information is as filled out as possible in your Thryv software to help communicate to potential customers what services your business offers.
Please let us know if you have any questions!0 -
Hi Christina,
Thanks for the explanation.
I wanted to share what I’m seeing on my end. When I search for “deck builders in Orland Park,” my business does not appear in the local maps results at all, while all of my competitors do.
I understand that Yahoo may label the category differently, but the main concern is that my listing doesn’t show up in the deck-builder search results, which puts me at a disadvantage compared to similar businesses in the area.

Hey Adam,
Sure thing! I totally understand your concern here. In this case, we could add more categories such as “Decks & Railings” or “General Contractor” which Yahoo seems to favor when searching for Deck Builders.
One thing to note is that if we add categories, it will add it to all of your other partner listings too. If this is something you are comfortable with, I can see about getting one or both of them added for you.0 -
Hi Christina,
Thanks for looking into this. Yes, I’m comfortable adding additional categories if it helps the Yahoo listing show up correctly. Please go ahead and add “Decks & Railings”.
Let me know once it’s updated.
Thank you!Adam
