Facebook, (who will actually refer to themselves as Meta) would contact you by email, not Facebook Messenger. The best way to tell if the email is actually from someone at Meta is to look at the email address, which will include a Meta-approved domain. You can find their official list here.Also, to verify that the email is legitimate, you can see a list of all emails that Facebook has sent to you within your Facebook account, here are instructions on how to do so. If the email is not found here, then it is safe to say it did not come from Meta.
Always remember, never click suspicious links, do your own research to verify any claim made in a message, and don't let yourself be pressured. Scammers create a false sense of urgency, as seen here, to try to make you act impulsively.
