Thryv helps you stay on top of your schedule, by syncing your Thryv calendar to your external Google Calendar. You will be able to see your scheduled appointments in Google calendar within the calendar on your Thryv account and schedule with clients at times that you are available. Also, any appointments you make in your Google calendar will feed into your Thryv calendar, blocking you from being booked online at that time and helping you stay organized.
On your account dashboard click on Settings> Availability & Calendar or if you have staff members enabled on your account, navigate to Settings> Staff> Edit the desired staff member>My schedule.
Under the Calendar Sync section, find the Google Calendar option and click on Connect Now.
Next, this dialogue box will appear. Click on Connect to continue.
You will be prompted to sign into your Google account.
Note: This will pop up in a new window. You may need to allow pop-ups on your browser.
Once you are signed into your Google account, you will need to click Allow to give permission for your Thryv calendar to access your Google account.
You will then be taken back to Thryv to complete setup. First, you will set your preferences for importing your Google calendar into Thryv.
Check the box for each Google calendar you would like to have synced. Any calendars that are checked will have their appointments synced to your Thryv calendar. Any that are unchecked will be excluded
There also is a toggle to keep my external calendar private. If this option is selected, then details of appointments from your Google calendar will only be displayed on your staff account. The time will simply say "sync" to other staff members. Once you have your preferences set, click on Next.
Then, you will set your preferences for exporting your Thryv calendar to your external Google calendar. First, choose whether you want your Thryv appointments to export to your main Google calendar, or to a new calendar within Google. If New Calendar is selected, you must give a name to that new calendar.
There is a toggle to keep my clients' information private. If this option is selected, your client names will not appear on your external Google calendar, only their initials.
When you are finished setting these preferences, click on Done. At this point you will be asked whether you want to begin the sync immediately or schedule it to occur overnight. The sync will take up to 24 hours (the amount of time depends on how many appointments you have on each calendar) and both of your calendars may be unavailable during that time. If you choose to sync immediately, it may cause an interruption to your workday.
Note: Some or all items on both your Thryv and Google calendar may disappear during the sync. These items are not lost. They will reappear when the sync is complete. However, for this reason it is recommended to start the sync overnight
You will see a confirmation screen when finished.
What to Expect From Sync
Any appointment or group event entered in Thryv will also show on your Google Calendar, and any appointment entered in your Google calendar will show that time blocked in Thryv.
Also, if you click on a synced appointment in your Google calendar, it will show the details of the appointment, and provide a link to Thryv to make changes.
An appointment synced from your Google calendar to Thryv will say (sync) in the title, and if you click on it will display the title of the appointment, and will block that time from your scheduling.
Un-sync Calendar
To un-sync your Google calendar, click on the gear icon next to your email address on your calendar.
Then, click on disconnect.
To confirm, click on Disconnect again.
FAQ
I am currently using the previous version of Google Calendar Sync, can I switch to the new version?
Yes! To do so, first disconnect your current sync, and then go through the process to set up the new two-way sync. Google calendar subscribes to the updated Thryv calendar during this process, while the old synced calendar items are removed to prevent duplicates. Your previously synced items will no longer appear, this is normal and part of the process.
Also note that if you were sharing your synced calendar through Google, once you re-sync you will need to share your Google calendar again.
How long does the sync take?
The sync takes 24 hours. During this time, the items on your current Thryv calendar will not appear. This is normal. The items are not lost and will reappear when the sync is complete.
I can only see parts of my Thryv calendar in Google.
Remember that the full sync can take up to 24 hours. If it is past 24 hours from the time of initial sync, contact support.
I need to change a synced appointment, can I change from either calendar?
No. The appointment can only be changed on the calendar where it was created. Please allow up to 15 minutes for the changes to show in the other calendar.
Can I set up the sync from both mobile and desktop?
No, at this time the sync must be done from desktop.
How do Google "All-Day" events sync?
All day events in Google will not automatically block your whole day in Thryv. You will need to manually block this time in your Thryv calendar to keep it from being booked.
Which items are included in the initial sync?
The initial sync includes calendar items from the last 30 days and the next two years.
I've added the new calendar to my iCal, but I still can't see my Thryv calendar items in it.
If you've successfully synced your Google calendar and checked the box beside your business name on your iCal, try clearing the cache on your browser.
Does an appointment have to be accepted in order to sync to Google?
Yes. If an appointment is in only requested but not accepted, it will not sync until it is considered "accepted."
