Once your business is listed online, maintaining accuracy is key to protecting your brand. Even a small typo or an out of date phone number can confuse customers and cost you a lead. When your information is scattered across different sites, you risk losing visibility and frustrating potential clients.
Regularly updating your online listings is the single best way to protect your brand and ensure customers always find the right information, no matter where they are looking. Staying on top of your online presence builds trust and makes it easy for people to connect with you.
To edit your listing information, click on Listings Management in the left-hand navigation, and then click Edit.
Sections of your Listing Profile
Basic Information
Business Name and Description
In this section, you can review and edit your business name and description. A robust description is crucial for staying competitive and ensuring your business is found and chosen by customers. Use this opportunity to refresh your profile and ensure it is as effective as possible. Remember to lead with the most important information, and include keywords early, as the character limit can vary by platform.
Looking for a new way to describe your business? Click Suggest Content and ThryvAI will come up with a description for your business. You can repeat this as many times as you like until you find a description that is perfect for you.
Select Your Business Categories
Refining your business categories is a powerful way to improve your visibility in search results. The categories you have selected tell search engines and customers what your business does and directly influence when and where you appear in search results.
Note: During the free trial, your primary category can't be changed once it is set.
To change your secondary categories, click on Edit. Then, type the category you wish to add. To remove a category, click on the X icon next to it. Including your primary category, you can have up to 10 categories total.
Note: The categories that display in this menu are defined by search engines like Google. If the category you are looking for does not appear, that means it is not offered by search engines. Thryv is not able to alter this list. In this instance, choose the category that is the closest fit to your business.
Contact Information
Use this section to review and update your contact information. Accuracy is critical, as a typo or an outdated phone number can cause you to lose a valuable lead. By keeping this information up to date, you ensure every customer can easily connect with you.
Change or Hide Your Business Address
To update the physical address you have entered here, click on Edit. Then enter your new or updated address.
Use the radio buttons to toggle how your address will display on your listings: your full address, city and state only, or hidden altogether. Click Save to ensure your changes are saved. Even if your address is not displayed publicly, it may be required by some listing providers to verify your business.
Note: Some listing providers require an address for a business to be listed. Hiding your address could render you ineligible to be listed on those sites.
Change Your Business Phone Number
To change any of your listed phone numbers, click on Edit and type the correct number in the appropriate field. Remember that Business Phone is the main number that will be listed first, and will be the destination for your tracked phone numbers on your Enhanced Profiles (NextDoor, Yahoo, Yelp, and YP). These tracked phone numbers can not be edited. You can see the results of these numbers in your Analytics tab.
Display a Contact Email on Your Listings
Click on Edit and enter a new email address. This email address will be displayed to customers. It does not necessarily need to be the same email address used to log in to Thryv.
Business Details
Use this section to review and refine the detailed information about your business and how it operates. A complete profile is a powerful sales tool, and ensuring these details are always accurate helps a potential customer decide to choose your business over a competitor. Click on Edit to make changes to one of these items.
Update Your Business Hours
If you need to make a change to your business hours, be sure to update them on your business listings, so that customers can know the best time to contact you, and have a consistent experience when interacting with your business.
Use the drop-downs to change whether your business is open or closed, and use the From and To drop-downs to set the hours. If the change applies to every day, save time by clicking Apply to All to automatically apply these hours to each day you are set to open. To add a break in the day (like a lunch break or other temporary closure), use the Split button to create a second set of From and To options.
To change the availability for a certain day, click on Add Holiday Hours to set different availability for a particular day on the calendar.
Update Your Accepted Payment Types
Adding all of your accepted payment types shows customers that you are easy to do business with and gives them confidence to move forward with purchasing from you.
To add or remove payment types, check or uncheck the boxes for all that apply. Click on Save when you're finished.
Update The Service Area For Your Business
If you selected to hide your address in the Business Address section, then a service area is required to be listed on most sites, including Google. To add a new city to your service area, type the city and state and click on + Add to add that city to your service area. To remove a city from your service area, click on the X icon next to it. Changes made here will update the area displayed for your business in the map section of listing publishers if they offer it.
Set Yourself Apart with Business Attributes
Attributes are what make your business unique. Whether you are eco-friendly, family-owned, or provide specific amenities, sharing these details helps you stand out from the competition and appeal to customers who are looking for exactly what you offer. These terms are often included in searches, and having them attached to your business makes sure you show up for customers who are looking for these traits specific to you!
Highlights are unique badges to display extra information on multiple listing sites. To use a highlight, set it's toggle to On and type the information in the fields that appear. For example, set the year your business was established, or list specific products or services that you offer. Click on Save when finished.
Yelp Attributes are specific to Yelp, and can help you stand out from the competition there. To add attributes to your Yelp profile, select at least 2, but no more than 6 attributes, by checking the box for them. Click on Save when finished.
Online Presence
Your online presence is where customers get to know your brand. These links and messages are a direct line from your business profile to your website and social media, helping you build trust and turn profile views into customers.
Website URL - Add your website URL here to ensure that every person who finds you in a search has a clear path to learn more, browse your services, or book an appointment directly.
Social Media Links - Social media is where your brand lives. By linking your profiles, you give customers a way to connect with you, see your work, and become part of your community. This helps build a stronger brand and keeps your customers engaged.
Featured Message - This is where you place a direct call to action, which is a message that tells your customers exactly what to do next. A strong call to action helps turn profile viewers into customers. Use this featured message to guide them to a specific and valuable page on your website, like a booking form, a special offer, or a contact page.
Photo Gallery
To rank higher and get noticed, your business needs a profile that stands out. Adding high quality photos gives your profile a major advantage. It signals to search engines that your business is active and professional, which can boost your visibility. More importantly, photos give customers a clear look at your work and help you stand out from the competition, making you the obvious choice.
Update Your Business Photos
Keeping your profile photos fresh is key to staying ahead of the competition. A well-maintained photo gallery signals to both search engines and customers that your business is active and professional, which can boost your visibility and help you stand out. By regularly updating your photos, you give customers a clear look at your latest work and make your business the obvious choice. Click on Edit to add or change photos on your listings. Then click on Add to add a photo. Images must be a JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB.
Change Your Profile Photo and Cover Photo on Google Or Facebook
Your profile and cover photos are your most important visual assets, and keeping them up to date is crucial for your online brand. If these images change, be sure to come back to Listings Management to update them.
Click on Edit for Google or Facebook to update there. While it isn't required for the images to match, it's generally recommended to have consistent branding wherever customers can find you.
FAQ
How long does it take for changes to appear on my listings?
Each listing platform makes updates according to its own schedule. While some sites update within a few hours, others can take up to a week. Thryv continuously sends updates to all listing sites, but can not change their update schedules.
I'm trying to add a business category, but I don't see it on the list?
The categories in your profile are determined by the search engines themselves. If you cannot find the category you are looking for, select the one that is the closest match to your business. This ensures you still appear in relevant searches.
What happens if I hide my address?
If you have a physical storefront where customers visit you, hiding your address can make your business ineligible for listings on some sites.
However, if your business travels to customers and does not have a public storefront (like a cleaning service or plumber), you can and should hide your address. In this case, you will define a service area instead, which is a shaded area on the map showing where your business operates. This helps you get found by the right local customers without compromising your privacy.
Can I manage multiple business locations?
No, Thryv is a solution for a single business location.
