How Global Search Works in Thryv Business Center
The Global Search bar is located at the top of every page in Thryv Business Center. Global Search runs a single query simultaneously across six record types in your account: Clients, Bookings, Payments, Estimates, Documents and Conversations. Type any search term into the Global Search bar and matching results will begin to appear in a dropdown below the search bar, automatically grouped by record type. You do not need to navigate to a specific section of Thryv Business Center before searching, Global Search is available from wherever you are in the software.
How to Use the Search Results Dropdown
When you type a search term into the Global Search bar, a results dropdown appears automatically below the search bar. The dropdown displays matching results grouped by record type, for example, Clients, Appointments, Payments and other categories appear as separate labeled sections within the dropdown. Each result in the dropdown is a direct link, click any result to open that specific record without navigating through additional menus. To see every match across all record types on a single page, click View All Results With "[your search term]" at the bottom of the dropdown.
How to View the Full Results Page
The full results page displays every record in your account that matches your search term, organized across all six searchable record types. To open the full results page, click View All Results With "[your search term]" at the bottom of the search results dropdown. On the full results page, filter buttons appear across the top of the page, click any of the following filter labels to narrow the results to a single record type: Clients, Bookings, Payments, Estimates, Documents or Conversations. When no filter is selected, all matching records across every category are displayed together.
How to Search by Client Name, Email, or Phone Number
Typing a client's name into the Global Search bar returns results across every record type associated with that client. The search results dropdown will display matching results in the following categories when searching by client name:
- All clients whose name matches the search term, search by first name, last name, or full name to narrow results to a specific client
- All bookings, including appointments and group events, associated with clients whose name matches the search term
- All invoices, estimates, and payments associated with clients whose name matches the search term
- All documents sent to or received from clients whose name matches the search term
- Links to all conversations with clients whose name matches the search term
You can also search by a client's email address or phone number instead of their name. Searching by email address or phone number returns the matching client card directly, without displaying results across all other record types. Searching by email address or phone number is the fastest option when your goal is to open a specific client's record rather than review all activity associated with a name.
How to Search by Appointment Type
Global Search supports searching by service name to find all appointments that include a specific service. Type the name of the service into the Global Search bar, the service name must match the name of the service as it is configured in your Services settings. Global Search does not search your Services settings list directly, it searches only for appointments that were booked using a service with that name. All appointments containing the matching service name will appear in the search results dropdown under the Bookings section.
To also find estimates or conversations related to the same service name, click View All Results With "[your search term]" at the bottom of the dropdown to open the full results page. The full results page displays all record types (including Estimates and Conversations) that contain the service name, giving you a complete view of all activity related to that service in a single view.
How to Search for a Document by Name
Typing a document name into the Global Search bar returns a list of every client the document was sent to. The search results display each client record associated with a document matching the search term, allowing you to quickly identify who has received a specific document without navigating to each client record individually. Document search matches on the document name as it appears in your account, use the exact document name or the first few words of the document name to return accurate results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What record types does Global Search search?
Global Search simultaneously searches six record types in your Thryv Business Center account: Clients, Bookings, Payments, Estimates, Documents and Conversations. Global Search does not search your Services settings list, staff records, or account configuration settings.
Can I search by partial name or partial phone number?
Why does searching by service name only return appointments and not the service itself?
Global Search is designed to find records associated with your clients and transactions, not to search your account configuration settings. When you search by service name, Global Search returns appointments that were booked using a service with that name. To view or edit the service itself, navigate to Settings in the left-hand navigation and open the My Services section.
Is there a way to search my client list with more detailed filters?
Yes. The Clients section in Thryv Business Center includes advanced filtering options that let you search your client list by specific criteria such as tags, status, and activity. To learn how to use advanced client list filtering, see how to filter and search your client list in Thryv Business Center.
