Why Roadrunner and rr.com Addresses Are Blocked
As of January 24, 2020, sending emails to roadrunner.com or rr.com email addresses from your CRM is no longer supported. Emails addressed to these domains will not be delivered.
Roadrunner was acquired by Time Warner Cable in 2012 and rebranded as Spectrum. Charter Communications purchased Time Warner Cable in 2015 and continued operating under the Spectrum brand. As part of that transition, all roadrunner.com and rr.com email addresses were retired and users were required to migrate to Spectrum-branded email addresses by October 2019.
Because roadrunner.com and rr.com domains have been retired, emails sent to those addresses are now frequently flagged as spam or routed to spam traps. Allowing emails to be sent to retired domains damages sender reputation for all users on the platform. To protect email deliverability across all accounts, sending to roadrunner.com and rr.com domains is blocked.
What to Do If a Contact Still Has a Roadrunner or rr.com Address
If you have a contact record in your CRM with a roadrunner.com or rr.com email address, that address is no longer active. Emails sent to that address will not reach the contact. Direct the contact to work with Spectrum to migrate their email account to a current Spectrum-branded email address. Once the contact provides their updated email address, update the email field on their contact record in your CRM to resume sending to that contact.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request an exception to send to a roadrunner.com or rr.com address?
No. The block on roadrunner.com and rr.com domains applies to all accounts and cannot be overridden. Because these domains have been retired by Spectrum, no email sent to these addresses will be delivered regardless of platform. The contact must update their email address to a current, active address before they can receive emails.
How do I update a contact's email address after they migrate to Spectrum?
Open the contact record in your CRM and locate the email address field. Replace the roadrunner.com or rr.com address with the contact's new Spectrum email address. Save the contact record. The contact will be reachable at their new address immediately after the record is saved.
