This article covers how to configure a Task Completion Goal in the Keap™ automation builder, including how to add tasks to a sequence, connect the sequence to the goal, and select the required tasks that must be completed to satisfy the goal. This article does not cover how to create or manage tasks outside of the automation builder. For help with tasks in Keap, see how to create and manage tasks in Keap.
Why Task Completion Goals Keep Your Automation on Track
Some automation sequences require human action before the next step should run — for example, a sales rep must complete a follow-up call before a prospect moves to the next stage of the pipeline. A Task Completion Goal in the Keap automation builder pauses the automation until all required tasks in the connected sequence have been marked as complete. Once all required tasks are completed, the goal is satisfied and the automation continues to the next step automatically. This ensures that the automation only advances when the necessary manual steps have actually been taken — not just when a timer expires.
How to Configure a Task Completion Goal in the Keap Automation Builder
A Task Completion Goal must be preceded by at least one sequence that contains the tasks driving to the goal. There is no limit to the number of tasks in the sequence, and there is no limit to the number of sequences with tasks driving to the same goal. The tasks in the sequence must be added and configured before the Task Completion Goal settings are configured.
Important: Add and configure all tasks in the sequence before opening the Task Completion Goal settings. The Task Completion Goal settings display only the tasks that already exist in the connected sequence — tasks added to the sequence after the goal is configured will need to be added to the goal requirements separately.

The screenshot above shows an example of a Task Completion Goal setup on the Keap automation builder campaign canvas. A sequence block containing tasks is connected to the Task Completion Goal block with a connection line. The Task Completion Goal will not be satisfied until all required tasks selected in the goal settings have been marked as complete.
Open the sequence where the tasks will be added by double-clicking the sequence block on the campaign canvas, or create a new sequence.
Add the tasks to the sequence that must be completed to satisfy the Task Completion Goal. Configure each task fully before proceeding to set up the goal.
Drag a Task Completion Goal block onto the campaign canvas and draw a connection line from the sequence containing the tasks to the Task Completion Goal block.
Double-click the Task Completion Goal block to open the goal settings. Select all of the tasks from the connected sequence that must be completed for the goal to be satisfied. Only the tasks selected here are required — tasks in the sequence that are not selected will not be counted as requirements for the goal.
Select Save to apply the task requirements to the goal.
Publish the campaign to make the Task Completion Goal active. The goal will not monitor task completion or advance the automation until the campaign has been published.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this article cover?
This article covers how to configure a Task Completion Goal in the Keap automation builder, including how to add tasks to a sequence, connect the sequence to the goal, and select the required tasks that must be completed to satisfy the goal. This article does not cover how to create or manage tasks outside of the automation builder. For help with tasks in Keap, see how to create and manage tasks in Keap.
How many sequences can drive tasks to a single Task Completion Goal?
There is no limit to the number of sequences that can drive tasks to a single Task Completion Goal. Multiple sequences can be connected to the same Task Completion Goal, and tasks from any of those sequences can be selected as requirements for the goal.
Do all tasks in the connected sequence need to be completed to satisfy the goal?
No. Only the tasks selected in the Task Completion Goal settings are required. Tasks in the connected sequence that are not selected in the goal settings do not count as requirements for the goal. The automation will continue once all selected required tasks have been marked as complete — regardless of whether unselected tasks in the sequence have been completed.
Do I need to add tasks to the sequence before configuring the Task Completion Goal?
Yes. The Task Completion Goal settings display only tasks that already exist in the connected sequence at the time the goal is configured. Add and configure all tasks in the sequence before opening the Task Completion Goal settings to ensure all intended tasks are available for selection as goal requirements.
Does the Task Completion Goal start monitoring tasks before the campaign is published?
No. The Task Completion Goal only becomes active after the campaign has been published. Until the campaign is published, the goal will not monitor task completion or advance the automation. Select Publish in the automation builder to make the campaign and the Task Completion Goal active.
