Why Apply a Tag Through an Email Link
When a contact clicks a link in your email, they are showing you exactly what they are interested in. Adding a tag to that link in Keap™ captures that interest automatically — the moment the contact clicks, the tag is applied to their record without any manual work on your end. This makes it easy to segment contacts by interest, trigger follow-up automations, or identify your most engaged leads based on what they clicked. You can apply up to 10 tags to a single link, and the same link can create new tags, search existing ones, or remove tags.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does this article cover?
This article covers how to create a link in the Keap Email Builder that applies a tag to a contact's record when the contact clicks the link. This article does not cover creating tags, managing your full tag list, or building automations triggered by tags. For a full guide to using tags in Keap, visit the Keap Help Center.
How many tags can I apply to a single email link?
You can apply up to 10 tags to a single email link. When the contact clicks the link, all selected tags are applied to their contact record simultaneously.
Can I create a new tag directly from the Apply Tag dropdown?
Yes. The Apply Tag dropdown in the link configuration panel allows you to create a new tag, search for existing tags, and remove individual tags or all tags from the link. You do not need to leave the Email Builder to create a new tag for use on a link.
Is there a limit to how many tags I can have in Keap?
There is no hard limit on the number of tags you can create in Keap. However, tags created after your account reaches 5,000 tags will not be searchable anywhere in the application, including the Email Builder Apply Tag dropdown. To keep your tags searchable and manageable, it is recommended to keep your total tag count under 5,000.
When is the tag applied to the contact's record?
The tag is applied to the contact's record at the moment the contact clicks the link in the email. The tag application is automatic and does not require any action on your end after the link has been configured and the email has been sent.
