Why Sending a Test Email Before Broadcasting Saves You from Costly Mistakes
Sending an email broadcast to your entire contact list without previewing it first is a risk. Formatting issues, broken links, or placeholder text that was never replaced can reach hundreds or thousands of contacts before you realize the error. Keap™ lets you send a test email to up to 6 recipients at a time — including users in your account, existing contacts, or any custom email address — so you can review exactly how your email looks in a real inbox before it goes out to your list.
How to Send a Test Email from the Email Builder in Keap
You can send a test email to up to 6 recipients at a time. Recipients can be users in your Keap™ account, existing contacts in your CRM, or custom email addresses you enter manually. Follow the steps below to send a test email from the email builder.
-
While inside the email builder, click the ellipsis menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of the page, then click Send a Test from the dropdown options that appear.
The screenshot below shows the email builder with the ellipsis menu open in the top-right corner. The dropdown displays Send a Test as one of the selectable options. Send a Test is the option used to preview the email in a real inbox before sending the broadcast to your full contact list.
-
In the Send a Test panel that appears, select the users and contacts you want to receive the test email. You can select up to 6 recipients in total across users, contacts, and custom email addresses combined.
The screenshot below shows the Send a Test panel with the recipient selection fields visible. The panel displays a search field for finding users and contacts in your Keap™ account to add as test recipients. The panel does not allow more than 6 recipients to be selected at one time.
-
To send the test email to an email address that is not in your Keap™ account, click the + Customize email address button inside the Send a Test panel.
The screenshot below shows the Send a Test panel with the + Customize email address button visible. The button appears below the recipient selection field and opens an additional input area for entering a custom name and email address not found in your account.
Enter the recipient's name and email address in the fields provided, then click Save to add the custom address to your list of test recipients.
-
Once all test recipients have been selected, click Send to send the test email to all selected recipients.
The screenshot below shows the Send a Test panel with all selected recipients listed and the Send button visible. The Send button appears at the bottom of the panel and delivers the test email to all recipients shown in the list.
Pro Tip: Test emails can also be sent directly from the Email Broadcast interface without opening the full email builder. Look for the Send a Test option inside the Email Broadcast setup flow to preview your broadcast before scheduling or sending it.
