Tags are searchable labels you apply to contact records to organize, segment, and filter your contacts. With tags you can create custom audience segments, filter your contact list by any tag, and track the engagement of specific groups over time. Tags can also trigger automations when applied to a contact — making them one of the most flexible tools in your CRM.
There is no limit to the number of tags you can create. However, tag-related menus may experience slower performance after your account exceeds 1,000 tags. This article covers how to create a new tag, how to manage tags on a contact record, and how to manage tags from Settings.
How to Create a Tag

Click your avatar in the lower left corner of the screen, then click Settings.

Click Tags in the Settings menu.

Click Add a tag or the + button in the upper right corner of the Tags page to open the new tag form.

Enter a tag name, category, and description. The tag name is required. The category and description are optional and can be used to organize tags and provide context for other users in your account.

Click Save to create the tag. The new tag will appear in your tag list immediately and will be available to apply to contact records.
How to Manage Tags on a Contact Record
Tags can be added, searched, and removed directly from a contact record without navigating to Settings. Use this method when you want to update tags for a single contact.

Open the contact record for the contact you want to update, then click the Tag card on the contact record to open the tag management panel.

Manage the contact's tags from the tag management panel. The panel lets you search for tags already applied to the contact, apply an existing tag from your tag list, create and apply a new tag on the spot, or remove a tag that is currently applied to the contact.
How to Manage Tags from Settings
The Tags page in Settings gives you a full view of all tags in your account. From Settings you can see which contacts have a specific tag applied, apply a tag to additional contacts in bulk, and review and edit your full tag list. Use this method when you want to work with a tag across multiple contacts at once.

Click your avatar in the lower left corner of the screen, then click Settings.

Click Tags in the Settings menu.

Select a tag from the tag list on the left side of the screen. Clicking a tag displays all contacts that currently have that tag applied.

Review the list of tagged contacts on the right side of the screen. The list shows every contact in your account that currently has the selected tag applied.

Click the Tag existing contacts dropdown to apply the selected tag to additional contacts. Search for and select a contact from the dropdown list. The tag is applied to the selected contact immediately after selection.
