Why Lead Score Goals Help You Automate at the Right Moment
Lead scoring in Keap assigns a numerical score to each contact based on their engagement with your emails, website, and other interactions. As a contact's score increases — indicating growing interest — a Lead Score Goal lets you trigger an automation sequence automatically at the exact moment the contact reaches a score threshold you define. This means your most engaged contacts receive timely, relevant follow-up without requiring manual intervention. For example, when a contact's lead score reaches a level that indicates they are ready to buy, a Lead Score Goal can automatically enroll them in a sales follow-up sequence. In Keap, lead score points are represented visually as flames — the higher the flame count, the higher the contact's lead score.
How to Add and Configure a Lead Score Goal in the Keap Automation Builder
Follow these steps to add a Lead Score Goal to a campaign and connect it to an automation sequence in the Keap automation builder.
-
Drag the Lead Score Achieved goal from the goals panel onto the campaign canvas in the Keap automation builder.

-
Optional — Rename the goal: Double-click the name displayed below the goal icon on the canvas to enter a custom name for the goal. A custom name helps identify the goal's purpose when working with multiple goals on the same campaign canvas.
The screenshot above shows the Lead Score Achieved goal block on the Keap automation builder canvas with the goal name selected for editing. Double-clicking the name below the icon allows a custom name to be entered. Select Save after entering the custom name to confirm the change.
-
Open the goal settings by double-clicking the Lead Score Achieved goal block on the canvas, or by single-clicking the block and selecting View and Edit.

-
Configure the lead score threshold. In the goal settings, set the number of flames — the lead score point value — that a contact must reach to satisfy this goal and trigger the connected sequence. When a contact's lead score increases or decreases to the configured flame count, the goal is satisfied and the automation continues to the next step. Select Save after configuring the threshold.
The screenshot above shows the Lead Score Achieved goal settings panel in the Keap automation builder. The panel displays a flame count selector where the lead score threshold is configured. The goal will be satisfied when a contact's lead score reaches the flame count entered in this field.
-
Connect the Lead Score Goal to a sequence on the campaign canvas. A sequence is the scheduled series of automated communications and processes that will run when the goal is triggered. Draw a connection line from the Lead Score Achieved goal block to the sequence block on the canvas.
The screenshot above shows the Lead Score Achieved goal connected to a sequence on the Keap automation builder campaign canvas. The connection line runs from the goal block to the sequence block. The sequence will run automatically each time a contact's lead score reaches the configured threshold and triggers the goal.
-
Publish the campaign to make the Lead Score Goal active. Select Save and then publish the campaign. Once published, the Lead Score Goal will begin monitoring contact lead scores and triggering the connected sequence automatically when the threshold is reached.
The screenshot above shows the Keap automation builder campaign canvas with the Publish button visible. Selecting Publish makes the campaign active. The Lead Score Goal will not monitor contact scores or trigger the connected sequence until the campaign has been published.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this article cover?
This article covers how to add and configure a Lead Score Goal in the Keap automation builder, including how to set the lead score threshold, connect the goal to a sequence, and publish the campaign. This article does not cover how to set up lead scoring or configure lead score values. For help setting up lead scoring in your account, see how to set up lead scoring in Keap.
What are flames in the Lead Score Goal settings?
Flames are the visual representation of lead score points in Keap. Each flame corresponds to a lead score point value. The flame count set in the Lead Score Goal settings defines the threshold a contact must reach to trigger the goal. For example, setting the goal to 3 flames means the connected sequence will trigger automatically when a contact's lead score reaches 3 points.
Can a Lead Score Goal trigger when a contact's score decreases?
Yes. A Lead Score Goal can be configured to trigger when a contact's lead score increases or decreases to the specified flame count threshold. The goal is satisfied and the connected sequence triggers automatically whenever the contact's score reaches the configured value in either direction.
Does the Lead Score Goal start working immediately after being added to the canvas?
No. The Lead Score Goal only becomes active after the campaign has been published. Until the campaign is published, the goal will not monitor contact lead scores or trigger the connected sequence. After publishing, the goal monitors lead scores automatically and triggers the sequence whenever a contact reaches the configured threshold.
