Why Configuring Staff Settings Helps Your Team Run Smoothly
Adding a staff member to Thryv Business Center™ is just the first step. To make sure each team member can be booked correctly online, receives the right notifications, and shows up properly to clients, you need to configure the advanced settings for each staff account individually. These settings let you control exactly which services each staff member provides, when they are available to accept bookings, and how their profile appears to clients during the booking process.
Use the advanced staff settings to:
Control how each staff member appears to clients — Set a display name, professional title, and profile photo for each staff member so clients see the right information when booking online.
Define each staff member's availability — Set individual business hours and time zone for each team member so clients can only book them when they are actually available.
Assign services to specific staff members — Choose which services each staff member provides so clients see the correct staff options when booking a specific service online.
Customize calendar display preferences per staff member — Set individual calendar view preferences including time format, start day, and time slot size for each staff account.
How to Access Advanced Settings for a Staff Member
To access the advanced settings for a staff member, click Settings in the left-hand navigation of Thryv Business Center. Then click Staff. Find the staff member you want to configure and click the Edit icon on the right side of that staff member's row.

Clicking the Edit icon opens the staff member settings popup. The Staff settings screen does not display availability hours or assigned services directly — those are configured inside the advanced settings for each individual staff member.
After clicking the Edit icon, a popup appears for that staff member. Click Advanced in the popup to open the advanced settings.

The popup also provides quick access to basic account information — the Advanced button is required to access availability, calendar, appointment, and profile settings.
The advanced settings screen is divided into three sections accessible from the left-hand navigation: Profile, Availability & Calendar, and Appointments. These same sections can also be accessed by clicking Settings in the left-hand navigation of Thryv Business Center and selecting the staff member from the right-hand column.

How to Update a Staff Member's Profile
The Profile section lets you edit the contact information and display preferences for a specific staff member. Click Profile in the left-hand navigation of the advanced settings screen to open this section.
The screenshot above shows the Profile section of the advanced staff settings screen. The section displays the following fields from top to bottom: Profile Picture, Email, First Name, Last Name, Display Name, Professional Title, Default Homepage, and Email Signature. The Profile section does not include availability hours or assigned services — those are configured in the Availability & Calendar and Appointments sections.
Use the Profile section to configure the following for each staff member:
Profile Picture — Click Upload Profile Picture to select a new photo, or click Remove to delete the current photo. The profile picture appears in the online booking menu when clients select a staff member.
Email — Enter the email address for this staff member. Thryv Business Center sends notifications to this email address, and this is the email address used to log in. Changing the email address in the Profile section also updates the email address in My Account.
First Name and Last Name — These fields display the staff member's name internally in Thryv Business Center. The first and last name also display on the online booking menu if the Display Name field is left blank.
Display Name — Enter a display name to use in all client-facing locations instead of the first and last name. When a Display Name is entered, it replaces the first and last name everywhere clients can see the staff member's name.
Professional Title — Enter a professional title to display alongside the staff member's name in client-facing locations.
Default Homepage — Select the screen that appears when this staff member logs in to Thryv Business Center.
Email Signature — Enter the email signature that will appear on all emails sent by this staff member from Thryv Business Center. The email signature set here does not apply to messages sent through channels connected to My Account.
How to Set Availability and Calendar Preferences for a Staff Member
The Availability & Calendar section controls the schedule, calendar view, and calendar sync settings for a specific staff member. Click Availability & Calendar in the left-hand navigation of the advanced settings screen to open this section. The Availability & Calendar section is divided into three subsections: Business Settings, General Availability, and Content Display.
Business Settings: Calendar View Preferences
The Business Settings subsection controls how the calendar displays for this staff member inside Thryv Business Center. Changes made here affect only this staff member's calendar view and do not affect what clients see on the online booking page. Use the dropdown menus to configure the following:
Start Week On — Select the day of the week that appears in the first position on the left side of the calendar for this staff member.
Time Format — Choose between a 12-hour clock and a 24-hour clock for how appointment times display on this staff member's calendar.
Time Zone — Select the time zone appointments display in for this staff member. Check the Apply to all staff and clients checkbox if all staff and clients should see times in this time zone. This option is recommended for businesses that operate in a single time zone.

General Availability: Set Individual Business Hours
The General Availability subsection controls the hours this staff member is available to accept appointments through online booking. Each staff member can have a different availability schedule and time zone, allowing each team member to manage their own hours independently. Set the time zone and business hours for this staff member so clients can only book them during the times they are actually available.

A weekly schedule grid displays each day of the week with a toggle to enable or disable availability for that day and time range selectors to set the start and end time. A Time Zone dropdown is shown at the top of the section. The General Availability subsection applies only to this individual staff member — changes here do not affect the availability of other staff members.
Use the + Add time slot to add a second set of available hours on the same day. This would be used if you close for a portion of the middle of the day. An example of this would be closing at mid-day for a lunch break.
Enter a start and end time for the additional block and then click on Add
Content Display: Calendar Appearance Preferences
The Content Display subsection controls how calendar information is presented visually for this staff member. Use the Slot Colors menu to choose how appointments are color-coded, and use the Slot Increments menu to set the time slot size on the calendar.
The screenshot above shows the Content Display subsection. The Slot Colors menu is displayed at the top with three color-coding options. The Slot Increments menu is shown below with radio button selectors for time slot size. The Content Display subsection affects only this staff member's calendar view — it does not affect how the calendar appears to other staff members.
Use the Slot Colors menu to select one of the following color-coding options:
Always by service or appointment type — Every appointment is color-coded based on the service or appointment type.
Always by staff member — Every appointment is color-coded based on the assigned staff member.
By service when viewing one staff member, by staff member when viewing multiple — Appointments are color-coded by service type when viewing a single staff calendar, and by staff member when viewing multiple staff calendars simultaneously.
Use the Slot Increments radio buttons to select the time slot size displayed on the calendar. Smaller time slot sizes make appointments appear larger and more detailed. The screenshot above shows the calendar set to one-hour time slots. Each hour occupies a single tall row and appointments appear as large blocks spanning the full hour height. This setting shows the fewest time slots on screen at once.
The screenshot above shows the same calendar set to 15-minute time slots. Each hour is divided into four smaller rows and appointments appear as shorter blocks spanning only their exact scheduled time. This setting is useful for businesses with short appointment durations.
How to Assign Services to a Staff Member
The Appointments section lets you select which services this staff member provides. When a client books a service online, only the staff members assigned to that service appear as available options. Click Appointments in the left-hand navigation of the advanced settings screen to open this section. Check the box next to each service this staff member provides. Uncheck the box next to any service this staff member does not provide. Changes take effect immediately and update which staff members clients can select when booking each service online.

Checked services are assigned to this staff member and will show this staff member as a booking option for that service. Unchecked services are not assigned to this staff member and this staff member will not appear as a booking option for those services.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this article cover?

Will changing a staff member's Display Name affect their login email?
No. The Display Name field only changes how the staff member's name appears in client-facing locations such as the online booking menu. The Display Name does not affect the staff member's login email or their name as it appears internally in Thryv Business Center. To change the login email, update the Email field in the Profile section — note that changing the email in the Profile section also updates it in My Account.
Can each staff member have different availability hours?
Yes. Each staff member has their own General Availability settings that can be configured independently. You can set different business hours and a different time zone for each staff member so each team member's availability accurately reflects when they can accept bookings.
If I uncheck a service in the Appointments section, will existing bookings for that service be cancelled?
Does the Email Signature set in the Profile section apply to all messages sent by the staff member?
No. The email signature set in the Profile section applies only to emails sent directly from Thryv Business Center by that staff member. The email signature does not apply to messages sent through channels connected to My Account, such as Gmail or Outlook integrations.
