This article covers what payroll blockers are, how Thryv notifies you of them, and how to resolve them before your next payroll run. This article does not cover how to run payroll after blockers are resolved for that, see Run Your Payroll in Thryv Workforce Center. If you are unable to resolve a blocker on your own, contact Thryv Support.
What Is a Payroll Blocker?
A Payroll Blocker is an unresolved action item that prevents payroll from running.
Thryv™ identifies payroll blockers automatically and notifies you so you can resolve them before your payroll due date. Payroll blockers must be resolved before Thryv can process payroll either manually or on a scheduled basis. If a payroll blocker is not resolved by your payroll due date, your scheduled payroll will not run and your employees will not be paid on time.
How to Resolve a Payroll Blocker
To resolve a payroll blocker:
Click Resolve Now on the payroll blocker banner at the top of your payroll dashboard. The payroll blockers panel will open on the right side of the screen.
The screenshot below shows the payroll blockers panel. The panel lists each open blocker with the name of the issue and the action required to resolve it. Each blocker includes either a link to the relevant screen in your payroll settings or an instruction to contact Thryv Support.
For each blocker in the panel, take one of the following actions:
If the blocker includes a link: click the link. Thryv will navigate you directly to the screen in your payroll settings where the issue can be resolved. Complete the required information on that screen, then return to the payroll blockers panel to confirm the blocker has been cleared.
If the blocker instructs you to contact support: click the support link in the panel to open a chat with the Thryv Support team.
Once all blockers are resolved, the payroll blocker banner will no longer appear and you will be able to run payroll manually or allow your scheduled payroll to process on its next due date.
How Thryv Notifies You of a Payroll Blocker
When a payroll blocker is detected, Thryv notifies you in two ways.
First, Thryv sends a notification to the email address associated with your account. Second, a banner appears at the top of your payroll dashboard in Thryv Workforce Center™ identifying that a payroll blocker requires your attention.
The screenshot below shows the payroll blocker banner as it appears at the top of the payroll dashboard. The banner displays a message indicating that a payroll blocker exists and includes a Resolve Now button on the right side.
Second, To open your payroll blockers from the banner, click Resolve Now. A panel will slide out from the right side of the screen listing all open payroll blockers. Each blocker entry displays the specific issue that needs to be addressed and the action required to resolve it.
What Happens If a Payroll Blocker Is Not Resolved
If a payroll blocker is not resolved before your payroll due date, Thryv will not process your scheduled payroll. This means your employees will not receive payment on the expected pay date. Thryv will not run a delayed or partial payroll and the entire payroll run will be skipped until all blockers are resolved and payroll is manually restarted.
If you miss a scheduled payroll due to an unresolved blocker, contact Thryv Support to discuss next steps.
Frequently Asked Questions

What if I cannot resolve a blocker on my own?
Some payroll blockers require action from the Thryv Support team and cannot be resolved independently. If your blocker panel instructs you to contact support, do not wait contact Thryv Support immediately, especially if your payroll due date is approaching.
