Why Tracking Website Events Helps Your Business
Knowing what visitors are doing on your website gives you the insight you need to make smarter decisions about your online presence. The Events report in Google Analytics tracks every action visitors take on your website, such as clicking buttons, filling out forms, or viewing specific pages and shows you which interactions are happening most often. Understanding your most common website events helps you identify what is working, where visitors are engaging, and where there may be opportunities to improve your website to drive more bookings, inquiries, and payments.
How to Access the Events Report
To access the Events report, click AEO & SEO in the left-hand navigation. Then click Google Analytics. Then click Events. The Events report displays data about the actions visitors are taking on your website, including total users, engagement time, and a full table of tracked events.
Understanding the Metrics at the Top of the Events Report
The metrics section at the top of the Events report provides a summary of how visitors are interacting with your website overall. Click on any metric to display a chart for that metric. The following metrics are available:
- Total Users, the total number of unique visitors to your website during the selected date range
- Avg Engagement Time, the average amount of time a visitor spends actively engaging with your website per session
-
Most Interacted Pages, the pages on your website that visitors interact with most frequently during the selected date range
Understanding the Events Table
Below the metrics charts, the Events table displays a complete list of all tracked events that have occurred on your website. The Events table includes the following columns for each tracked event:
- Event name, the name of the action tracked on your website, such as a button click, form submission, page view, or other interaction
- Event count, the total number of times the event has occurred on your website during the selected date range
- Total users, the total number of unique visitors who completed the event during the selected date range
Use the Events table to identify which actions visitors are taking most frequently on your website and which events may need attention if engagement is lower than expected.
