Why Following Platform Requirements Protects Your Business Presence Online
When you post to social media from Thryv®, the content still lives on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others — and each platform enforces its own rules about what can be posted and in what format. Posting an image that is the wrong size can result in a distorted or cropped photo that looks unprofessional. Posting content that violates a platform's community standards can result in the post being removed or your account being restricted, regardless of where the post was created.
Use this article as a reference to ensure every post you publish from Thryv meets the technical and content requirements of each platform, so your business looks professional and your account stays in good standing.

Meta Content Policies: What You Can and Cannot Post on Facebook and Instagram
Meta — which operates both Facebook and Instagram — enforces strict community standards that apply to all content posted on their platforms, regardless of where the post was created. Posts published through Thryv are subject to the same Meta community standards as posts made directly on Facebook or Instagram. Meta reserves the right to remove posts or take action against your account for content that violates their policies.
What follows is a summary of the Meta content restrictions most relevant to business owners. This summary is not a complete list of all Meta policies. For the full and current Meta community standards, see Meta's Community Standards Policy Page.
It is entirely at the discretion of Meta to determine whether a specific piece of content violates their policies. Meta does not provide Thryv or any other third-party platform with a process to challenge Meta's ruling on whether a post violates their guidelines.
Restricted Goods and Services on Meta
Meta restricts posts that attempt to buy, sell, trade, or promote certain categories of goods and services. The following categories are restricted on Meta platforms:
Firearms — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, or trade firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, explosives, or lethal enhancements are restricted. An exception applies when the post is from a Page, Group, or Instagram profile representing a legitimate brick-and-mortar retail business, website, brand, or government agency such as a police or fire department.
Non-Medical Drugs — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, or trade non-medical drugs, or that speak positively about, encourage the use of, or provide instructions for making or using non-medical drugs are not allowed.
Pharmaceutical Drugs — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, or trade pharmaceutical drugs are restricted, with exceptions for listing vaccine prices in an educational context or offering delivery services when posted by a legitimate healthcare business.
Marijuana — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, trade, donate, or gift marijuana are not allowed.
Alcohol and Tobacco — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, or trade alcohol or tobacco are restricted, with exceptions for posts from legitimate brick-and-mortar retail businesses or posts about alcohol or tobacco that will be consumed at a specific event or location such as a restaurant, bar, or party.
Weight Loss Products — Posts that make miracle claims about weight loss products and attempt to sell, trade, or gift those products are not allowed. Meta does not allow before-and-after photos that display idealized weight loss results.
Hazardous Goods and Materials — Posts that attempt to buy, sell, trade, or gift hazardous goods and materials are not allowed. Meta determines what constitutes a hazardous good or material at its sole discretion.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this article cover?
This article covers the image and video size requirements for all social media platforms supported in Thryv, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Business Profile, TikTok, and Pinterest. This article also covers Meta's content policies for restricted goods and services that apply to Facebook and Instagram. My post was removed by Facebook or Instagram. Can Thryv appeal the removal?
No. Which posts are removed is entirely at Meta's discretion. Thryv has no ability to appeal a content removal decision made by Meta. If you want to appeal a removal decision, the appeal must be submitted by the page owner directly through Meta. For instructions on how to appeal a Meta content decision, see Meta's Page on How to Appeal Content Decisions.
Does posting through Thryv guarantee my content follows Meta's community standards?
No. Meta's community standards apply to all content posted on their platforms regardless of where the post originated. You are responsible for ensuring any content you create and publish through Thryv complies with the community standards of each platform you post to. Meta's policies apply the same way whether a post was created in Thryv or posted directly on the platform.
Can I post an image that does not match the recommended size for a platform?
Yes. Most platforms will still accept an image that does not match the recommended dimensions. However, the platform will automatically resize the image before publishing it, which may cause the image to appear distorted, stretched, or cut off. To ensure your images display correctly, use the recommended dimensions listed in the Image and Video Size Requirements section of this article before uploading.
Will Meta restrict my account for repeated policy violations?
Yes. Meta uses a strike system to progressively restrict accounts that repeatedly violate their community standards. Meta also reserves the right to take more immediate or severe action depending on the nature of the violation. For a full explanation of the actions Meta may take against an account, see Meta's Policy on Restricting Accounts After Violations.
If Meta restricts my page, can I still post from Thryv?
No. If Meta restricts your Facebook or Instagram page, you will not be able to publish posts to that page from any platform, including Thryv. The restriction applies at the platform level and affects all posting tools equally.
