Every email you send is an opportunity to drive your customers to take action: book an appointment, pay an invoice, fill out a form or engage with your business in a way that moves things forward. Action buttons make that next step obvious and easy for your recipients. By adding a clearly labeled, well-designed action button to your email campaign, you increase the likelihood that customers will engage with your content rather than scroll past it.

This article covers adding and customizing action buttons within the email campaign builder. This article does not cover creating an email campaign from scratch. How to Add an Action Button to Your Email Campaign
Action buttons are added to your email campaign using the content panel on the right side of the campaign builder. In the right-hand content panel, locate the Button element. Click and drag the Button element into the desired column in your email layout. The button will appear in the column where you drop it and will be ready to customize.
How to Set the Action for Your Button
The action determines what happens when a customer clicks the button in your email. After adding a button to your campaign, click the button in the email layout to select it. In the Content Properties panel on the right, click Edit Action. A list of available client portal actions will appear.
Select the action you want the button to perform from the list. Available actions connect recipients directly to features in your client portal, such as booking an appointment, paying an invoice or submitting a form.
Note: When you select an action, the button label will automatically update to match the selected action name.
How to Customize Button Text
The text on your action button is the first thing your email recipients will read, so making it clear and action-oriented improves click-through rates. To edit the button label, click directly on the button in the email layout. The existing label text will become editable. Delete the existing text and type your desired button label.
How to Customize Button Width
Button width is controlled in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. To set the button to automatically fill its column, set the Auto Width toggle to On. To set a custom width, set the Auto Width toggle to Off. When Auto Width is off, a width slider will appear. Drag the slider to the right to increase the button width, or to the left to decrease it. Width is measured as a percentage of the column the button is placed in.
How to Customize Button Font
Font settings for your button are available in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. The button font can be set independently from the global font used across the rest of your campaign. In the font settings section, select a font family from the font dropdown, then set your preferred font weight (such as Regular or Bold) and font size. Changes apply only to the selected button and do not affect other buttons or content blocks in the campaign.
How to Customize Button Color
Button color settings are located in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. Two color fields are available: one for the button background color and one for the button text color. To change either color, click the corresponding color field. A Color Picker will appear.
Select a color using the Color Picker, or type a specific hex code directly into the hex code field to apply an exact brand color.
How to Customize Button Alignment and Spacing
Alignment and spacing settings for your button are available in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. Use the alignment controls to position the button text to the left, center or right within the button. Use the spacing fields to adjust the space around the button text within the button container. These settings apply only to the button currently selected. Each button in your campaign must be configured individually.
How to Add Padding to a Button
Padding controls the space between the button label text and the inner edges of the button. Increasing padding makes the button taller and wider, giving the label text more breathing room and improving readability. Padding settings are located in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. By default, padding is applied equally to all four sides of the button. Enter a number in the padding field, the higher the number, the more space is added. To set different padding values for individual sides (top, right, bottom, left), set the More Options toggle to On and enter a separate value for each side.
How to Add a Border to a Button
A border adds an outline around the outside edge of your button, which can help the button stand out against the email background. Border settings are located in the Content Properties panel on the right side of the campaign builder. To add a border, increase the border size field above 0. Then, click the border color field and use the Color Picker to select a border color or enter a hex code in the hex code field. The border color must be different from the button background color and must not be set to transparent in order to be visible. To set a different border color for each side of the button, set the More Options toggle to On and assign a color to each side individually.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply button customizations to all buttons in my campaign at once?
No. Button customizations, including font, color, alignment, spacing, padding and border, apply only to the individual button currently selected. Each button in your campaign must be configured separately. Global design settings such as fonts and colors apply to text content blocks, not to buttons.
What actions can I assign to a button?
Available actions connect your email recipients directly to features in your client portal. The specific actions available depend on the features active in your account. Common actions include booking an appointment, paying an invoice, and submitting a form. The full list of available actions appears in the action selection screen after clicking Edit Action in the Content Properties panel.
Why is my button border not visible?
A button border will not be visible if the border size is set to 0, if the border color is set to transparent or if the border color matches the button background color exactly. To make the border visible, set the border size above 0 and select a border color that contrasts with the button background color.
