To get started, click on Website Builder in your left-hand navigation.
From here, you can either manage your existing sites, or build a new one by clicking Create New
Build-It-Yourself
Use our simple user-friendly website editor to build a custom website for your business! Once you've built your site and secured your domain, your site will be ready to launch in a matter of minutes.
To select a Build-It-Yourself website, select Create A Website after selecting Website Builder in the Marketplace
The website builder will open in a new tab. To get started, enter a name for the website. Note that this name is internal to distinguish it from other sites you've built, and will not be displayed publicly. Click Next in the lower right corner to proceed.
Next, you will be able to select sections for your site. Note that these are not separate pages, as the Build-It-Yourself website will always be one page. Rather, these are sections within the page, you will be able to customize them more later. There is no minimum or maximum number of sections you are able to select. You will always have a header and a footer, and these sections will be placed between them.
Click on the checkbox for a section to select or unselect it, then click on Next to continue. If you select Skip, your site will use the default sections checked.
Note: After launch, you are able to return to the website editor and add or remove sections at any time.
Next, select a Theme for your site. A theme is a set of colors and fonts that will determine how your site appears. Click on a theme to select it and click on Next. Note that you can return to the website editor and change your theme at any time after launch. Only one theme can be selected at a time, but can be changed later. When you hover over the tile for a theme, the colors included in the theme will appear at the bottom of the tile. In addition, the text on the tile is the font that will be used.
Next, add your contact information to populate your site. When clicking on Add Logo, you will be taken to your device's file explorer. Choose an image to upload which will be used as your logo.
Then, add your social links to be included in the Header of your site
With the information provided, Website Builder will begin building your site. Please allow a moment for the site to be constructed and for the full editor to open.
Building/Editing Your site
After selecting your sections and theme, you will be taken to the website editor itself. This is where you can fully customize your site before launch, or return here to make changes to your existing site
Site Preview
At the top of the page, click on the Desktop or Mobile Icon to view the editor in either desktop or mobile view. This can be used to preview how your site will look on each device.
Use the Preview button to be taken to a live preview of your site. This will allow you to see your site the same way a visitor would.
Edit Sections
Each section will be on the left hand rail as a drop-down. To edit a section, click on the drop down for that section, or click the drop-down again to collapse that section.
Here are some actions you may see available in a section:
- Toggle - this means that an element can be switched on or off. When set to On, the element will appear in the section, and when set to off it will be hidden. For example you could choose to show or hide your business logo or social icons.
- Text Field - Enter the relevant information in the text field so it displays properly on your site. Note that some text fields are links, for example Social Networks. In this instance, you will need to enter the URL for the given social site
- Images - this image will appear within the section. Click on Replace to change the image
Once you've finished the first section, move on to the next, and repeat for each section. You will see the results of your choices update in real time in the preview window, and don't forget the full preview button at the top!
As you edit, you can expand and collapse each section to edit them one at a time until you are satisfied with the results.
Change Sections and Theme
To change the sections available in your website, click on the +Add button under My Sections. You will be taken back to the same screen in the initial setup, where you can check or uncheck the sections that are included in your site.
Or, to change the theme for your site, click on the Theme drop-down. The same themes as the initial setup will appear, and you can click on any theme to apply it to your site.
When editing a launched site, you will be able to add or remove sections as well as edit them.
Finally, to launch your site or confirm your changes, click on the Publish button. This will launch your site with any changes you've made in the editor. Remember, once you publish your site, there isn't a way to undo the changes you've made. Don't click on the publish button until you're absolutely sure you want this version of the site to launch.
Note: If you are unsure about publishing your site, or want to come back and finish it later, you are able to save it as a Draft. We'll cover managing your draft sites later
Launching Your Site
After clicking Publish, you will be asked to confirm one more time. Click on Publish again if you are ready to proceed.
The next step is to secure your domain. If you already have purchased a domain and want to use it, click on Use a domain you already own. Otherwise, we can take care of that for you at no additional cost! Just click on Get a new custom domain
To use your own domain, first enter the name of the domain you own. Then, follow the steps in the pop-up window to connect it.
You will need to log in to your domain host directly, and edit your DNS settings. Create a CNAME record with the settings shown on the pop up. Then, point the root of your domain to the website using the records shown in the second part of the pop up.
From here, click on Continue and the final screen will be the checkout screen. You can use your existing card on file or add one from this screen.
Get A New Custom Domain
First, enter your desired domain in the search bar. If the exact domain isn't available, Thryv will find the closest matches available. Use the radio button to select the domain you want to use, and check the box stating "I acknowledge that the selected domain is subject to change until purchase is complete" and click on Continue
Note: Once you complete checkout your domain is secured. If you leave this screen and come back there is a chance your domain may not be available
After this step, you have officially created your website! At this point, your card on file will be charged for the first month of service. If you don't currently have a card on file with Command Center, you will be required to add one, and this card will be charged monthly. Click Here for a full guide to adding a card on file.
Thryv Managed Website
For a more robust website and more assistance, partner with our website team to design, build, and manage your site! With this option, you can expect a site fully equipped with contact forms, professional copywriting, calls to action, and up to 15 pages in just 20-30 days.
In this process, you will be paired with one of our expert website consultants. You will meet with them and tell them about your business and your vision for the site and any goals you may have. Your website consultant will coordinate the design of your site, writing the copy, securing your domain and ultimately launch your site. To select this option, click on Hire A Designer after selecting Website Builder in the marketplace.
First, you'll need to schedule your website consultation appointment. Select an available date and time from the scheduler. The appointment typically lasts about 1 hour. Make sure to take note of the time zone drop-down, which can be toggled under Available Timeslots. Once you've selected a date and time, click on Next
Next, you'll need to provide your contact information. This will be given to your website consultant to coordinate your appointment and in case any follow-up communication is necessary. Enter both a phone number and email address, and click on Next
On the final screen, all that's left to do is review your information and complete your purchase! Make sure your contact information is correct, and click on Complete Purchase. At this point, your card on file will be charged for the one-time design fee and the first month of service. Managing Your Draft Websites
To view your draft websites, navigate back to Website Builder on your left hand navigation. To do so, click on the Website Builder icon.
You will see a list of all of your sites, both published sites and drafts. You are allowed to have as many draft website as you would like. A website isn't visible to anyone but you until it is published.
You are able to search your websites using the Search Bar. To search for a website, enter the name that was given to the website when it was created.
To filter your sites, click on the Filter Icon. You can filter sites by Published or Unpublished, or by their Creation Date
To see how your website looks, click on View. This will open the site in preview more. Or, to make changes to your website, or launch a draft site, click on Edit. You will be taken into the Website Builder
Site Analytics
To see analytics for your site, click on View for the selected site.
Some quick information will drop down showing site visits, referrers (sources), and events on your site.
To see more data, click on the new tab icon. More information will display in a new tab about this site specifically. If you want to see more information about another site, you'll need to click View then new tab for that site instead.
FAQ
For Build-It-Yourself sites, am I able to customize the colors?
You are able to select a different theme for your site. However, the colors within each theme are preset and can not be edited
If I have Business Center, will my Website Widgets or Webchat app appear on a Build-It-Yourself Site?
No, they will only appear on Thryv Managed Sites
Am I able to add 3rd party widgets to a Build-It-Yourself site?
No, this option is only available on Thryv Managed Sites
Where can I edit my DNS Settings?
There is not a way to edit DNS Settings within Website Builder. If you need to make changes to your DNS settings, please call support at 844-998-4798 and we will be able to assist you. For Build-It-Yourself sites, DNS Settings are fixed and can not be edited.
Can I change or transfer my domain after launch on a Build-It-Yourself site?
No, once your site is launched the domain can not be changed. You would have to start over with a new site in this instance.
Can I change or transfer my domain after launch on a Thryv-Managed site?
While you are not able to change or transfer your domain on your own, you can call our URL Management team. Any and all questions related to your domain or DNS settings can be answered by calling them at 844-339-4574
