This article covers how to sign or decline a document sent through Thryv. This article does not cover how to send a document for signature or manage signature request statuses. To learn how to send documents for e-signature and manage the status of outstanding signature requests, see Manage your E-Signature Requests.
How to Access a Document Sent to You for Signature
When a document requires your signature, Thryv sends an email notification to the email address associated with your account. Open the email notification and click Sign Now in the email body. Clicking Sign Now opens the document in a browser window, where you can review the document and complete your signature. You do not need to be logged in to Thryv to sign a document from an email notification, the document opens directly in the browser without requiring a login.
How to Access Documents Awaiting Your Signature from Within Thryv
Documents awaiting a signature from you or a staff member are also accessible directly from within Thryv without leaving the application. Documents requiring a business or staff signature appear under the Business Signature section in Thryv. When it is your turn to sign a document, an orange Sign button appears next to the document entry. If the document is waiting for a client to sign before the business signature is required, the Sign button appears greyed out and cannot be clicked until the client completes their signature. When you open a document from within Thryv, the document opens in a dialogue box inside Thryv rather than in a separate browser window.
How to Fill In Required Fields on a Document
After opening a document for signing, review all fields that are available for you to complete. Fields that require your input are displayed in a highlighted box within the document. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required and must be completed before you can submit the signed document. Fields without an asterisk are optional. Click each field to enter the requested information. After completing all required fields, proceed to the Signature field to add your signature.
How to Sign a Document
To add your signature, click the Signature field in the document. The signature window will open. The signature window offers three methods for creating your signature, all three are equally valid from a legal standpoint, so choose the method that is easiest for you.
Draw It In
Select Draw It In to write your signature using your mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen. A blank drawing area will appear in the signature window. Use your cursor or finger to draw your signature in the drawing area, the same way you would sign with a pen on paper. If you are not satisfied with the result, clear the drawing area and try again before clicking Insert.
Type It In
Select Type It In to type your name and have Thryv render it in a signature-style font. Type your name in the text field provided. Click Change Font to cycle through the available signature font options and select the style that best represents your signature. The selected font and typed name will become your signature on the document.
Use A Photo
Select Use A Photo to upload an image of your handwritten signature. Use a photo of your actual signature written on white paper for the clearest result. Click the upload area in the signature window to open your device's file browser and select the image file containing your signature. Once the image is uploaded, it will appear as your signature on the document.
How to Insert Your Signature and Complete the Document
After creating your signature using any of the three methods, click Insert in the signature window. The signature window will close and your signature will appear in the Signature field on the document. Review the document to confirm your signature is placed correctly and all required fields marked with an asterisk (*) have been completed. When the document is ready to submit, click Continue in the top-right corner of the document view.
After clicking Continue, a final confirmation bar will appear at the top of the screen. Click I Agree in the confirmation bar to confirm your intent to sign and complete the document signing process. Clicking I Agree is the final step, the document is legally signed at this point.
What Happens After You Sign a Document
After you click I Agree, a success confirmation screen appears. Click Close to close the document window. Thryv automatically sends a copy of the signed document to your email address for your records. If the document requires additional signatures from other parties, Thryv automatically routes the document to the next signer without any action required from you. The next signer receives their own email notification with a Sign Now link.
How to Decline a Document You Do Not Want to Sign
If you choose not to sign a document, you can decline it from within the document view. With the document open, hover over the three-dot menu icon in the top-left area of the document view. Click Decline in the menu that appears. The document will close and the business owner who sent the document will receive an automatic notification that the document was declined. Declining a document does not delete the document, the business owner can review the declined status and take further action from the signature request management section in Thryv.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change or update my signature after I have already signed a document?
No. Once a document has been signed, it can’t be edited or changed, including your signature. If you need a different signature on the document, you’ll need to delete the completed signature request and start a new one with a new document.
Do I need a Thryv account to sign a document sent to me?
No. When a document is sent to you for signature via email, clicking Sign Now in the email opens the document in a browser window without requiring a Thryv login. You can complete and submit your signature entirely from the browser without creating or logging in to a Thryv account.
What happens if I close the document before clicking I Agree?
If you close the document before clicking I Agree, your signature is not completed, so the document won’t be finalized. To finish signing, you’ll need to reopen the document and go through the final step again: click Continue, then I Agree to confirm and complete the signing. After you click I Agree, you’ll see a confirmation screen and then you can click Close. A copy of the signed document will be emailed to you.
How do I know if a document has been signed by all required parties?
To view the signature status of documents you have sent, including whether all required parties have signed, see Manage your E-Signature Requests.
Can a client decline a document, and will I be notified?
Yes. If a client declines a document rather than signing it, the business owner receives an automatic notification that the document was declined. The declined document remains in your account and can be reviewed from the signature request management section in Thryv. To learn how to manage declined documents and resend signature requests, see Manage your E-Signature Requests.
