What This Article Covers
This article explains how to name and organize your Thryv Trackable Phone Numbers so your call tracking reports stay clear and useful. To create a new trackable phone number or edit an existing one, see Trackable Phone Numbers for step-by-step setup instructions.
Why Naming Your Trackable Phone Numbers Matters
Every trackable phone number you create is tied to a specific ad or campaign. When your numbers are named clearly, you know at a glance which flyer, ad, or listing drove a call, without opening your Analytics tab to investigate. Clear naming also helps you avoid creating duplicate numbers for the same campaign, which wastes one of your available slots. Since Thryv Trackable Phone Numbers are limited to 5 per account, a clear naming system helps you make the most of that limit and keep your reporting easy to read.
How to Name Your Trackable Phone Numbers
Use this naming structure for every trackable phone number you create:
Channel – Campaign – Details (optional)
For example:
- Google Ads – Plumbing
- Website – Main
- Flyers – Spring Promo
- Facebook/Instagram – Brand Awareness
Enter this name in the Name field when you create a trackable phone number, or update it later by clicking the tri-dots on the number's row and selecting Edit Details.
When to Create a New Trackable Phone Number
Create a new trackable phone number when you start a new campaign, test a new advertising channel, or want to compare performance between two campaigns separately in your reporting. Since Thryv accounts can have up to 5 trackable phone numbers at a time, reserve new numbers for campaigns you want to measure independently.
When to Reuse an Existing Trackable Phone Number
Reuse an existing trackable phone number when the campaign it's assigned to is still running, or when you want to build long-term trend data for that channel over time. Reusing a number instead of creating a new one also helps you stay within your account's 5-number limit.
Best Practices for Organizing Your Trackable Phone Numbers
- Keep names short and specific. Avoid vague labels like "Test" or "New."
- Review your list of trackable phone numbers periodically. Remove any number no longer tied to an active campaign to free up a slot for a new one.
- Use the same channel and campaign naming pattern across all your trackable phone numbers so your Analytics tab stays easy to scan.
FAQ
Can I rename a trackable phone number after it's created?
Yes. Click the tri-dots on the number's row, select Edit Details, and update the name at any time. This does not change the phone number itself or affect its call history.
How many trackable phone numbers can I have at once?
Up to 5 per Thryv account. If you've reached this limit, remove a trackable phone number no longer in use before creating a new one.
Does renaming a trackable phone number affect its reporting history?
No. Renaming only changes the label shown in your Analytics tab. Call history and statistics for that number are not affected.
