This article covers how to connect Claude™ to Keap™ using the Keap connector, what the connector can do, how to get started, best practices, troubleshooting, data privacy, and how to handle AI errors.
With the Keap connector for Claude, natural language can be used to ask questions about and perform actions in a Keap account — without navigating menus or writing code. The connector is designed to make AI a practical part of small business workflows, enabling faster access to CRM data and automation management.
Claude is a large language model (LLM) designed to be helpful, honest, and safe across reasoning, coding, and data analysis tasks. When connected to Keap, it can answer complex questions and take actions in a Keap account on behalf of the user.
How the Connector Helps Small Businesses
Use AI without technical knowledge — Take advantage of generative AI without learning coding or APIs.
Save time — Ask complex, multi-step questions and perform actions that would otherwise require advanced logic or multiple steps in the application. Instead of exporting data to a spreadsheet to search, ask questions in natural language and receive actionable answers.
Expand team usage — Team members less familiar with Keap can use natural language chat to understand and manage sales and marketing data.
What the Connector Can Do
Most actions available in the Keap web application can also be performed through the Claude connector. This includes managing contacts, tags, companies, notes, tasks, opportunities, automations (listing automations and adding contacts to existing automations, but not creating new automations), products, users, affiliates, business profiles, and more.
The connector is built on the Keap REST API. Delete functions are not included as a safeguard against accidental data deletion. Records can still be deleted through the Keap web application.
If a function is not yet available through the connector, Claude will provide guidance and sample content to complete that task directly in the Keap web application.
When in doubt about what is possible, ask Claude: "What can I do in Keap?"
Advanced Strategies
After trying a few simple requests, consider these approaches to get more from the connector:
Test edge cases — Ask the connector anything, from simple to complex. The AI chat feature is in beta and may not work in all cases. Verify all responses before acting on them.
Use it strategically, not just operationally — The connector can serve as a strategic partner informed by account data, helping with decisions, not just tasks.
Explore broadly — Ask anything about Keap or small business CRMs in general to discover new workflows and capabilities.
Keap data can also be linked with existing Claude context — including past conversations, memory, other connectors, and web search — for richer, more contextual responses.
Feedback on the connector can be sent to kaiteam@thryv.com and is reviewed directly by the Product Managers who oversee this integration.
Set Up the Connector
Prerequisites
A Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise account is required. The connector cannot be used with a free Claude account.
The Thryv login experience must be active. See how to migrate to the Thryv login experience for details.
Navigate to https://claude.ai/settings/connectors.
Select Browse connectors.
Search for Keap.
Select the + Connect button.
Sign in to the Keap account using the Thryv login experience.
After signing in, the page returns to https://claude.ai/settings/connectors with Keap listed as an active connector.
Enable or Disable the Connector Per Chat
New Claude chats have all connected connectors enabled by default. The Keap connector can be toggled on or off per chat to limit which capabilities are available.
Open a new chat in Claude.
Select the + icon (Search and tools) at the bottom-left.
Select Connectors.
Confirm that Keap is toggled on.
Ask Claude a question or request an action. Claude will use the Keap connector to retrieve data and complete the request.
Getting Started With the Connector
Start with small, specific requests to build confidence — for example, ask Claude to create a single contact or retrieve a few records. Then progress to more complex requests that would require multiple steps in the application. The connector works especially well for creating, summarizing, and strategizing using Keap data.
The following example prompts can be copied directly into a Claude chat. Modify them to match the account's data and needs.
Explore and Manage Contacts
Create a new contact. I spoke with John Doe on December 10. He is not ready to buy yet; he needs to focus on hiring two sales representatives first. His long-term goal is to expand his business into the Pacific Northwest region. He plans to follow up again in April 2026.
Using Keap CRM, list my contacts created in 2025, including their first name, last name, email, company name, and any associated tags.
Organize these contacts in a spreadsheet in chronological order.
List my 20 most recent contacts.
How many leads did I get last week with the 'webinar' tag?
Optimize the Sales Pipeline
Identify contacts that have not been engaged in the past six months and add them to the appropriate nurture automation.
Analyze my most recent leads and categorize them by business type, business size, the sales representative assigned to each lead, and the time of year the lead was generated. Also add a column for any additional insights about these leads.
Create a follow-up task for all contacts who haven't opened emails in 30 days.
Which automations are active right now?
Evaluate and Strategize
I've cleared my calendar for today. Which areas of my business can you help me improve in one day? Please recommend a step-by-step action plan.
Which opportunities are most likely to close and require immediate follow-up?
Summarize what happened yesterday, last week, and last month in my Keap account.
I'm new. What's the overall status of my team's sales and marketing efforts?
Show me the biggest deals that fell through and why.
Enhance the Connector With a Dedicated Claude Project
For higher quality responses, consider creating a dedicated Project in Claude for Keap-related conversations. Projects allow custom instructions to be set that apply to every conversation within the project. Claude will use these instructions to guide its style, focus, and responses, though instructions are not guaranteed to apply to every request.
The following instructions can be pasted into a Claude Project. Modify them to match specific business needs:
You are my virtual assistant for everything related to my small business. We use Keap.com and Thryv.com to automate and run our business, and in particular we use Keap for managing our contacts, automating the workflows our customers go through, etc. You are my small business sales, marketing, and back office automations expert and have access to the Keap MCP server for executing tasks within Keap on my behalf.
Provide small business advice and best practices to me, and offer follow-up suggestions and advice related to the activities I'm undertaking. You are my expert salesperson, customer support representative, and service scheduler. You are an expert in Keap and Thryv software for small businesses.
Follow best practices found in the Keap Knowledge Base: https://learn.thryv.com. Use articles in the Keap category of Thryv products as the primary source.
You are aware of the API capabilities of Keap and are an expert at understanding what can be done based on the developer REST v2 API documentation: https://developer.infusionsoft.com/docs/restv2/.
Best Practices and Troubleshooting
The connector is available in the Claude mobile app (iOS and Android), the Claude desktop app (macOS and Windows), and the Claude web application. Mobile may be preferred for voice mode or on-the-go use; desktop is better suited for deep working sessions.
Confirm the Thryv login experience is active before connecting. See how to migrate to the Thryv login experience for details.
If Claude is not using the Keap connector when responding:
Prompt explicitly — Add "in Keap" to the end of a message. For example: "Show my 10 most recent contacts in Keap."
Reconnect the connector — The connection may have been lost. Navigate to https://claude.ai/settings/connectors, disconnect the Keap connector, and reconnect.
Check connector status per chat — Confirm the Keap connector is enabled for the current chat. See the Enable or Disable the Connector Per Chat section above.
Disconnect the Connector
Navigate to https://claude.ai/settings/connectors.
Next to Keap, select the … ellipsis menu and then select Disconnect.
Data Privacy
Data for training — Keap account data is not used to train Claude's models, except when feedback is explicitly provided or training opt-in is selected. Review the applicable Anthropic terms (consumer or commercial) for the specific Claude plan in use.
Data for competitors — Account data is not accessible to other businesses or competitors through the connector. The connector provides access only to the Keap accounts accessible through the Keap web application. Review Anthropic's Trust Center and applicable plan terms for full details on data use.
Multi-account access (partners) — If multiple Keap accounts are accessible, the connector works with one account at a time. Ask Claude "What Keap app ID am I on?" to confirm which account is active. Visit https://accounts.keap.app/accounts to view accessible accounts, then ask Claude to switch — for example: "Switch me to app ID onb123."
Hallucinations and Errors
Claude is generative AI and can make mistakes, including stating incorrect information ("hallucinating" facts). The following practices reduce the risk of AI errors causing problems:
Have a person verify any AI output before using it to make significant decisions.
Keep Keap data current and accurate. Inaccurate input data leads to inaccurate AI output.
Ask Claude to provide sources or explain its reasoning. Prompting for citations reduces the likelihood of fabricated information.
Ask Claude to work step-by-step through a request rather than completing everything at once. This chain-of-thought approach often improves accuracy. See Claude's chain-of-thought prompting guide for details.
