Benefits of connecting Claude to Keap
Bring relevant customer information into a conversation so you can review records and prepare follow-up work. For example, retrieve a small group of contacts, summarize available notes, and decide which customers need attention.
The connector provides tools for working with CRM information. Available actions depend on the connector’s tools, your account permissions, and any restrictions set by your Claude organization.
What you need before connecting Claude to Keap
Before starting, have the following ready:
- A Claude account with access to custom connectors.
- A Thryv ID you use to sign in to Keap.
- Access to the Keap account you want Claude to use.
- The Keap MCP server URL: https://api.keap.com/mcp.
If your organization manages Claude, an authorized owner may need to add the connector before you can connect your account.
For current plan availability and organization requirements, read Claude’s custom connector requirements.
How to create the Keap custom connector
A custom connector connects Claude to a service using a server address you enter manually. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, the standard used for the connection.
Use Keap’s hosted MCP server. You do not need to build or host a server.
- Sign in to Claude and open Settings.
- Select Connectors. If your interface places connector management under Customize, open Customize, then select Connectors.
- Select Add, then select Add custom connector.
- Enter Keap in the connector name field.
-
Enter the following address in the remote MCP server URL field:
https://api.keap.com/mcp - Submit the custom connector form.
- Select Connect if Claude displays a separate connection control.
- Sign in with the Thryv ID you use to access Keap. Complete the authorization prompts.
- Return to Claude and confirm that Keap is connected.
Claude’s setup screens can vary by interface and organization settings. For additional configuration screens, follow Claude’s instructions for adding a custom connector.
Connect through a managed Claude organization
Ask an authorized Claude owner to add a custom connector named Keap using https://api.keap.com/mcp.
After the connector is available to your organization, open Connectors, select the Keap connection, and authenticate with your Thryv ID.
How to enable Keap in a Claude conversation
- Open a conversation in Claude.
- Select the + button beside the message field.
- Open Connectors and turn on Keap.
- Enter a specific request that names Keap.
Review any tool approval request before allowing Claude to retrieve information or change account data.
How to check your Keap connection
With Keap enabled in the conversation, enter:
List my Keap apps.
Review the returned accounts to confirm that the intended Keap account is accessible.
If multiple accounts appear, identify the account you want Claude to use before requesting account-specific information or changes. Ask Claude to confirm the selected account before proceeding.

How to check Claude’s answers and CRM changes
Claude can make mistakes. Check important answers against the source records in your CRM before relying on the answers.
For requests involving account data:
- Identify the intended account and records.
- Ask Claude to identify the records used in the response.
- Ask Claude to state when requested information is unavailable.
- Review proposed changes before approving an action.
- Check the affected records directly in your CRM after a change.
For example:
Use information retrieved from Keap. Identify the source records and tell me when the available records do not answer the question.
How to troubleshoot the Keap connection
Keap does not appear in Claude’s connector directory
Keap is not listed in Claude’s connector directory. Add a custom connector manually.
Open Connectors, select Add, then select Add custom connector. Enter Keap as the name and https://api.keap.com/mcp as the remote MCP server URL.
The option to add a custom connector is unavailable
Check your Claude account’s custom connector availability and organization settings. If your organization manages connectors, ask an authorized Claude owner to add the connection.
Read Claude’s custom connector requirements for plan and organization details.
Thryv ID sign-in does not complete
Confirm that you can sign in to Keap directly using the same Thryv ID. Return to Claude and try connecting again.
Check the connector configuration for a mistyped server address. The address must match https://api.keap.com/mcp.
Claude responds without retrieving Keap information
Check that Keap is enabled in the conversation’s Connectors menu. Name Keap explicitly in the request.
For example:
Retrieve my five most recent contacts from my connected Keap account. Identify the records used.
Claude cannot complete a requested action
The requested action may be unavailable through the connector or restricted by your permissions. Complete unsupported tasks directly in your CRM.
If a connection problem continues, contact Keap Support. Include the error message and the setup step where the error occurred.
How to disconnect Keap from Claude
- Open Connectors in Claude.
- Find the Keap custom connector.
- Open the connector’s management options and select Disconnect.
To remove the custom connector configuration, follow Claude’s removal prompts. Removing an organization-wide connector may require an authorized owner.
For additional instructions, read Manage connected services in Claude.
